Skanska to reconstruct US bridge

The Williamsburg Bridge in New York City will be rebuilt and repaired, according to a deal signed by Skanska and the New York City Department of Transportation.

The bridge was constructed in 1903 and held the world record for the largest suspension bridge span until 1924.

The bridge, which is nearly 2 kilometers long, has undergone multiple renovations since it was erected in 1903.

Work will begin in October 2022 and is scheduled to be completed in December 2025.

Scope of work covers; 1. Replacement of the stiffening truss bearings at the anchorages and main towers, 2. repairs to the chord stiffening top and bottom trusses

Scope of work; 3. the installation of inspection platforms and maintenance travelers 4. installation of an intelligent transportation system 

Skanska's US order bookings for the third quarter of 2022 will include the $150 million deal.
